Dear experts, I’ve encountered a problem in a recent design: it’s a vertical heat exchanger of DN900, with heat exchange tubes that are 4000 long. The operating pressure on the shell side is 0.7 Mpa, while the operating pressure on the tube side is -0.05 Mpa. For the hydraulic test pressure on the tube side, I calculated it as 1.25*0.1=0.13. In previous designs of pressure vessels, we didn’t take into account the hydrostatic pressure due to the liquid column when conducting hydraulic tests on vertical equipment. But this time, using software for calculations, SW6 gave a hydrostatic test value of 0.1458; I’m not sure how this value was obtained. Has anyone encountered this situation? Is there still a problem with the software?
It might be a software issue or there is no hydrostatic pressure from the liquid column at the head. I conducted a simulated calculation based roughly on the poster’s description; in this test, no hydraulic testing fluid was used, so the pressure was 0.125 MPa.
For pressure vessels under external pressure (vacuum), the hydrostatic test pressure does not take into account the height of the liquid column. I conducted a calculation using SW6-3.0, and the resulting hydrostatic test pressure value was 0.125. Is there something wrong with your software?
