When performing calculations for the forces at the pipe connection using a coupling, if those forces have already been calculated, then in cases where additional reinforcement rings or an increased thickness of the coupling is required due to other factors, resulting in local stress levels exceeding the allowable limits, it can be considered safer not to carry out further calculations. Because it had already passed when no addition was made.
In my opinion, what is calculated for the force at the joint connection is stress; if the stress level is satisfactory, there is no need to add reinforcement rings or increase the thickness of the joint connection. Discuss together.
