When undergraduates work on their graduation projects, the length of the heat exchange tubes is set at 6 meters; this results in 500 tubes being required. The number of U-tubes is reduced by half, to 250. So, does that mean the length of the heat exchange tubes has to be increased to 12 meters? Thank you all in advance.
It’s different! If the bend radius of the U-tube is different, its length will be different as well!

The length of the heat exchange tube referred to in the context of U-tubes is the length of its straight sections; in other words, to calculate the length of a U-tube, one takes twice the length of the straight sections plus the length of the R-shaped arc (half-circle). Yes, at least curved arc-shaped sections of pipe need to be added!
Do you want to keep the area unchanged? If the U-shaped section is not included in the heat exchange area, then the length should indeed be 12 meters. However, when the equipment becomes more elongated, its heat exchange efficiency generally increases, which results in a greater margin of safety
You need to add the length of the curved sections; even the shortest ones are longer than 12 miles
