Currently, pigging devices have gradually become the main tool for cleaning oil pipelines. The cleaning method used by piggers is mostly mechanical cleaning, achieved through the scrapers and steel brushes built into them. Its performance metrics and cleaning efficiency fall far short of the requirements of actual projects, and sometimes pipeline blockages occur due to jams in the cleaning devices themselves. Therefore, the research on multi-functional oil pipeline pigging devices holds extremely important economic and social benefits. The multi-functional oil pipeline pig studied and designed in this paper features significant improvements in both functionality and structure. In terms of functionality, the addition of a heating system enables the cleaner head to reach a certain temperature, which softens the paraffin accumulated on the inner wall of the pipeline, thereby improving the cleaning efficiency of the cleaner. The basic components of the cleaner’s heating system, its working principle, as well as the operation principles of various components such as the impeller, generator, battery, rectifier, and inverter are discussed. Finite element analysis is also used to simulate and analyze the temperature field of the heating system. In the design of the cleaner’s positioning system, the optimal operating frequency is determined. In terms of structure, the UG Nx software was used to design the overall structure of the pig, with a focus on proposing a 3D modeling method for the impeller section at the tail of the pig; ultimately, the various components of the multi-functional oil pipeline pig were assembled together. Pigging is an important task before the commissioning of oil and gas pipelines or during their operation, as it helps to ensure the proper functioning of the pipelines and their efficiency in transporting fluids. Pigging devices are essential tools in pigging operations.
