Dear industry experts, the design service life of the shell and the tube bundle in shell-and-tube heat exchangers differs significantly (20 years for the shell/5 years for the tube bundle). Which one should be used as the standard when making changes beyond the designed service life? How should this be implemented in practice?
Each one does its own thing; the pipes need to be checked, and if there are leaks, they should be replaced or sealed
Since the tubes are not provided with a corrosion margin, they are treated separately: pressure testing is carried out as necessary, and replacements are made when required
