Shouldn’t there be standards for steel pipe dimensions? Why is there an A and B series for flange standards as well? What exactly is the AB series used for?

In the early days, many of the equipment and pipelines used in our country’s installations were imported; some met European standards and others met American standards – there were no ones that met our own standards. As a result, our pipeline and flange standards continue to include both European and American standards.
I’m familiar with flanges; there is a clear distinction between European and American standards. However, pipes are used less frequently, so I’m not very familiar with the standards. We all referred to that SH3405 thing, I can’t remember exactly; it also didn’t specify whether it was European standard or American standard.
