Serrated chain is also known as silent chain. It is formed by a set of chain plates with two teeth, which are arranged alternately left and right and hinged together. The two sides of each tooth serve as the working surfaces; the tooth shape is linear. During operation, the outer edge of the chain tooth engages with the teeth of the sprocket to achieve transmission. Sprocket chains are widely used mechanical components, especially in applications that require high speeds, low noise levels, and large center distances. Their performance is superior to that of toothed belts and roller drive chains, and they show a clear trend of replacing toothed belt drives. Features of toothed chains: 1. The toothed chain plates can move with high precision; the wear and elongation of each link are uniform, allowing for very high levels of motion accuracy. 2. Toothed chains generate less noise. They transmit power through the engagement between the working chain plates and the involute teeth of the sprocket teeth; compared to roller chains and sleeve chains, their polygonal effect is significantly reduced, resulting in less impact, smoother motion, and lower meshing noise. 3. The reliability of toothed chains is also high; their links have a multi-plate structure, so if one of the plates is damaged during operation, it does not affect the functioning of the entire chain, allowing for timely detection and replacement. To increase the load-bearing capacity, it is sufficient to reduce the width (by increasing the number of plate rows). The above are the main uses and characteristics of toothed chains; as an important component in assembly lines, they exhibit outstanding performance in terms of transmission capabilities.
