The drum is an important component of a belt conveyor, serving functions such as driving, tensioning, and direction changing. Drum types include drive drums, tension drums, electric drums, as well as direction-changing drums and surface-increasing drums used to increase the driving arc and change direction. The surface of the drum comes in three forms: smooth, rubber-coated, and cast-gummed. Smooth rollers are generally used in areas with low power requirements and low environmental humidity ; Rubber-coated rollers can be used in humid environments where high power needs to be transmitted and where slipping is likely to occur. Conveyor belts often use rubber-coated drums, which have advantages such as a high friction coefficient and resistance to coal sticking. Free-floating drum, internal toothed shaft-type drum: The internal toothed shaft-type is the most commonly used installation method, with both ends connected to the frame via bolts. Spring-pressed drum: The spring-pressed drum is mounted using elastic shafts, making it the easiest method for installation and removal. The load-bearing capacity of a drum depends on the drum cylinder, the shaft, and the bearings, and it is determined by the weakest element among them: 1. The cylinder must not exceed its maximum load capacity, otherwise it will deform and cause uneven conveying ; 2. Insufficient shaft stiffness can lead to uneven stress on the bearings, affecting their performance ; 3. The load must be less than the bearing’s safe allowable value.
