Today I asked an old man from Hangzhou Auto Repair what the term \"six diamonds\" meant for a dial indicator. He told me that it meant the large needle could rotate six times. I asked if a model with a range of 10 meant it had 10+ diamonds. I then took one of his lever-type dial indicators, which also indicated \"six diamonds\", and said that the range of this instrument was only in the 100s, meaning it could rotate just over one and a half times. I wondered if any of the forum members knew the answer
It indicates that 6 of the main shaft seats are made of gemstones, which are highly wear-resistant and ensure precision over long-term use
Six diamonds does not mean six rotations; the number of diamonds indicated on a dial indicator is the same as that on a mechanical watch, and it refers to the number of gemstone bearings.
