The question is as stated in the title. I’m a complete novice in the petrochemical industry, and recently my boss asked me to prepare a formulation plan for mixing methanol with unknown components in order to create methanol fuel that meets the standards for alcohol-based fuels. Referring to the blending of oils, the general steps for blending should be similar to those used in oil blending. However, I’m not sure how to proceed with calculating the blending ratios; I was wondering if any users with extensive experience in blending could offer some advice. What is known at present is as follows: 1. Methanol fuel needs to be formulated in concentrations of 50%, 75%, or 100%. 2. The various performance standards that these three concentrations of methanol fuel must meet are known. 3. It is unknown what the unknown components are. Therefore, it’s not clear whether those familiar with this field know any empirical calculation formulas related to alcohol-based fuels Please share. The most straightforward method that comes to mind at the moment is to prepare samples with unknown composition levels ranging from 10% to 90%, test various parameters of each sample, and determine which combination meets the standard requirements. Then use that ratio to amplify and mix it. I hope all friends from Sichuan can share their experiences more. Thank you here!
