The reason for the explosion of the cylinder in the reciprocating compressor used for storing, transporting, and unloading liquefied gas is that one of the reciprocating shafts was broken, as explained by Expert Shu
Reciprocating compressor cylinder? It would be best to send a video so it’s easier to discuss. I don’t know what your compressor looks like, so it’s hard to say.
Try to reason: it is caused by the selected model not matching the process medium or the required quantity, as well as prolonged overloading. Inadequate maintenance and loose internal fasteners lead to imbalance, caused by torque. Unstable motor current leads to uneven force distribution, thereby compromising the strength of the components.
Our company’s previous reciprocating compressors also encountered similar problems, mainly caused by breaks in the piston rod during operation. Such issues result in significant noise during operation, making it difficult to detect them in advance through manual inspections. Later, a vibration interlock device was installed to monitor several key areas in real time; if the vibration levels exceed the set limits, an alarm is triggered to provide timely warnings, and in severe cases, the system will shut down automatically.
Check whether the piston rod and crosshead connection nuts are loose; if they are loose, there may be no clearance in the cylinder, which can lead to cylinder collision accidents as well as crankshaft breakage
Failure to stop the machine due to a broken piston rod, leading to subsequent problems
