For stainless steel drums used to transport materials at an inclined angle, brakes are necessary to prevent them from reversing or slipping when parked under load. For conveyors using fabric-core belts, three types are commonly chosen: belt-type check valves, roller check valves, and block brakes. Let’s specifically discuss the effects of these three types of brakes on the drive drum. I. Stainless steel drum roller check valve: When the stainless steel drum is operating normally, it drives the drum shaft to rotate the roller check valve. Its star wheel rolls in a clockwise direction, with the rollers usually located at the widest part where the star wheel is blocked. Brakes of this kind need to operate in a very smooth and reliable manner; they also need to be available in series, so as to be compatible with different reducers. Moreover, the roller check valve is located in the upper driving drum, and stainless steel drums are widely used. II. The stainless steel drum belt-type check valve functions by introducing a braking belt between the drum and the conveyor belt when the inclined conveyor comes to a stop; under the influence of the load weight, the conveyor belt reverses direction, and the braking belt is then wedged in place, thereby stopping the operation of the stainless steel drum conveyor. A stainless steel roller conveyor like this has a simple structure and low cost, making it highly suitable for upward-moving stainless steel roller conveyors with an inclination of no more than 18°. The drawback is that when braking, it first reverses for a while, which can cause blockage and overflow at the feeding point. III. Questions regarding stainless steel drum-type brakes: Compared to the commonly used pad-type brakes, power drums have lower durability during operation; in situations where brakes of the backstop type cannot be used, such as in downward or horizontal conveying operations where specific requirements exist regarding stopping time. Therefore, when using a power drum, brakes are inevitably necessary. When selecting brakes, the user must consider where the power drum will be used in order to ensure that the brakes can perform their function effectively.
