The difference between forgings and castings

I’ve always been confused regarding the processing of forgings and castings in materials. Castings are produced by pouring, but aren’t steel billets for forgings also created through pouring? Then why is cast iron further divided into malleable cast iron and non-malleable cast iron?

Forgings have a high density, good microstructure, and excellent mechanical properties, while castings have a loose microstructure and poor mechanical properties
What are the differences in their manufacturing processes? Aren’t the steel molds for forgings also cast?
