The method to determine whether the engine oil contains water-soluble acids and bases is as follows: pour equal amounts of engine oil and distilled water into a glass test tube, heat and stir for 1 minute to separate the oil from the water. Add 2-3 drops of a 1% phenolphthalein solution to the water; if the water turns red, it indicates the presence of water-soluble alkalis in the engine oil ； Add 2-3 drops of methyl orange solution to the water; if the water turns red, it indicates the presence of water-soluble acids in the engine oil ； Two reagents are added; if the water does not change color, it indicates that the engine oil is neutral.
