Hi, your industrial control assistant has arrived as scheduled. Today, we’re sharing some basic information about Coriolis mass flow meters. At present, Coriolis flow meters are the most popular and widely used type of flow meter. So let’s take a look at why they are so popular. The measurement principle of Emerson mass flow meters: Emerson mass flow meters are commonly used flow measurement devices that can directly measure the mass flow rate of the medium passing through them. They offer advantages such as high measurement accuracy, good sensitivity, flexibility in use, and high reliability. So what is the measurement principle of this type of flow meter? ①The flow meter uses thermal sensing for measurement, determining the flow rate by assessing the mass of molecules carried away by the flowing molecules. Since it relies on thermal sensing, changes in gas temperature or pressure do not affect the measurement results. At the same time, it is also a relatively accurate, fast, reliable, efficient, stable, and flexible flow measurement instrument. It will find wider application in fields such as petroleum processing and chemicals, and is expected to show great potential in advancing flow measurement technologies. ②Emerson mass flow meters can also measure the density of the medium and indirectly determine its temperature. Since the transmitter is an intelligent instrument based on a microcontroller, more than a dozen parameters can be derived from these three basic quantities for use by the user. Due to its flexible configuration, powerful functions, and high performance-to-price ratio, this flow meter is a next-generation flow measurement instrument. ③With the increase in automation levels, many production processes have placed new demands on flow measurement. The chemical reaction process is controlled by the quality of the raw materials. The heating and cooling effects of steam and air currents are also proportional to the mass flow rate. Strict control over product quality, accurate cost accounting, and fuel quantity management for aircraft and missiles all require precision as well. Therefore, a mass flow meter is an important flow measurement instrument. To make better use of Emerson mass flow meters, the following aspects need to be taken into consideration. 1: When installed vertically or horizontally, the measurement tube should be oriented upward to prevent changes in its frequency caused by the accumulation of solid residues, which could affect the accuracy of density measurement. 2: When using a Coriolis mass flow meter to measure density, the impact of flow velocity or flow rate on the mass flow meter is often overlooked. The flow rate of the medium passing through the mass flow meter indeed has no direct impact on the accuracy with which the meter can measure density. However, the high-speed flow of limestone slurry causes significant wear on the measuring tube of the mass meter, thereby affecting its service life. Therefore, the flow rate through the mass meter should be kept as low as possible to extend its service life and reduce costs. The specific approach is to install the mass meter in a bypass when the flow rate in the main pipeline is too high, and control its flow rate using valves. 3: Do not install it directly at the outlet of the vertical vent pipe; it should be located on the pressure side of the pump (to prevent low pressure). 4: After long-term use, the mechanical structure of the measurement tube changes due to material accumulation, wear, and corrosion; its resonance frequency is affected by these factors, which leads to a decrease in the accuracy of density measurement. Therefore, on-site recalibration is necessary. 5: Before shutting down for an extended period, rinse the pipes with clean water to prevent limestone from adhering to the walls of the measuring tubes, which could lead to a decrease in measurement accuracy or even make measurements impossible. As a highly precise instrument, Emerson mass flow meters require that we strictly adhere to their specifications not only during manufacturing and use, but also require special attention during maintenance in order to prevent the meters from reaching the end of their useful life prematurely.
