The Emerson mass flow meter features a robust construction and is easy to install; it can be installed from any direction, unaffected by the flow direction of the fluid. When using an Emerson mass flow meter for measurement, as the fluid flows at a certain velocity through the measuring chamber of the flow meter, which is installed horizontally or vertically, the baffle rotates axially. When the thrust exerted by the fluid on the surface of the baffle is in balance with the reaction force on that surface plus the tension of the torsion spring, the angular position of the baffle within the measuring chamber represents the corresponding flow rate. An annular magnet located inside a magnetic steel chamber sealed at the axis of the baffle uses magnetic coupling to rotate the pointer of the indicator, thereby converting the flow rate into a reading on the dial or transmitting it to an electrical converter.
