On September 5, the large-scale FPU (floating natural gas production unit) “Scarabeo 5”, constructed by CIMC Raffles, successfully completed the departure, towing, and floating-up operations in Yantai, and was transported to the Republic of the Congo in West Africa via a semi-submersible vessel. The Yantai Maritime Bureau provided full support to ensure the safe departure of this unit. “Scarabeo 5” is primarily used for offshore oil and gas development in the Republic of the Congo, and it serves as the key equipment for the country’s first natural gas liquefaction project. To ensure the efficient and smooth shipment of “Scarabeo 5”, Yantai Maritime Bureau implemented a customized service support mechanism for each ship, reaching out in advance to CIMC Raffles to gain a detailed understanding of the platform’s construction status and carrying out simulation tests for the ship’s departure procedures ; In accordance with the platform’s shipping schedule, advance the assessment of air operation safety efficiently, clarify relevant safety requirements, and guide enterprises in selecting appropriate weather windows ; Focusing on the requirements throughout the shipping process, temporary traffic controls are implemented, and information technology tools such as smart maritime systems, CCTV, and AIS are used for dynamic monitoring to ensure the safe and smooth shipment via the platform ; Issuing navigation warnings in advance for towing and floating unit operations helps to gain time for the towing of platforms, thereby assisting companies in reducing their logistics costs. It is understood that the dry weight of the “Scarabeo 5” FPU module is 13,000 tons; it is equipped with 3+1 dual-fuel engines, giving it a total installed power of 13.5 megawatts. It is capable of processing 12.5 million standard cubic meters of natural gas and 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The project employs approaches such as \"modular construction,\" enabling the efficient development of LNG from marginal gas fields with industry-leading timelines and cost efficiency. This offers a new approach for the development of small- to medium-scale, marginal gas fields, and holds significant practical value as a model for the efficient utilization of natural gas resources in the global LNG industry, particularly in Africa.
