According to China Petroleum Network (Reporter: Yang Hongzhi; Correspondent: Li Shaobo), on December 4, good news came from BaoShiShun Company in Qinhuangdao, which is part of Gemstone Pipe Industry. The artificial intelligence-based steel pipe inspection system developed by this company has undergone nearly half a year of training and trial operation on multiple welded pipe production lines owned by Gemstone Pipe Industry. Its inspection accuracy and efficiency are at an advanced level within the industry, marking the successful industrial application of China’s first AI-powered intelligent steel pipe inspection model. This system utilizes AI-based intelligent recognition technology to select real-time X-ray images for steel pipe inspection, achieving a defect detection rate of over 95% and helping to increase the efficiency of inspection tasks by more than 40%. “The weld images appear on the screen one frame at a time, like scenes in a movie; the inspection of a 4-meter-long steel pipe can be completed in 1 minute, and 1,000 inspection images can be reviewed in 2 minutes, with the locations of suspected defects being accurately marked. ”Cheng Jibing, a first-level engineer at Gem Tube Industry, explained that compared to the traditional detection methods that relied solely on manual labor, AI-powered detection not only significantly improves the efficiency of those performing the inspections but also keeps the error rate below 5%. It is reported that this intelligent detection model features a universal interface design, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with the detection equipment on various pipe manufacturing lines within the company. Leveraging the powerful feature-extraction capabilities of **large models, combined with expertise in weld inspection, the system can quickly and accurately identify typical defects in pipes such as cracks, pores, and lack of fusion, ensuring that no defects go unnoticed.
