I have a general idea of what austenitic steel is, but I’m not sure what ferritic steel is. I checked some information, and it all mentions ferritic stainless steel. I have a vague feeling that ferritic steel and ferritic stainless steel are not the same thing. Is there any expert who can provide an answer? Which grades are included in ferritic steels?
It has been found that ferritic stainless steels have a carbon content of less than 0.15% and a chromium content ranging from 12% to 30%. Due to the low mass fraction of carbon and the high mass fraction of chromium, no or only minimal transformation between the α-phase and γ-phase occurs when the steel is heated from room temperature to high temperatures or cooled; it remains in a single-phase ferritic structure. Therefore, it cannot be strengthened by quenching. Ferritic steel is a carbon steel with a very low carbon content; its structure at room temperature is alpha-ferrite, giving it good formability but low strength. Such as 08 steel – here it refers to carbon steel with a very low carbon content; what type of steel is it?

Ferrite is the matrix structure in steel; whether a material is stainless steel depends on its chromium content – materials with a chromium content of ≥12% are considered stainless. Ferritic steel has good toughness, but it is not an appropriate choice if hardness is desired
