The oil and gas side tube bundles of the water coolers and condensers in the tower sections of petrochemical refining units are not suitable for nickel-phosphorus electroless plating. The image below shows the tube bundle of the overhead water cooler in a atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit; the tube bundle on the oil and gas side was coated with a nickel-phosphorus electroless coating, but this coating failed to provide protection after less than 2 years of use.
