Corrosion of equipment due to alcohol

In production, alcohol is used as the raw material; the heat exchangers and distillation towers made of alcohol suffer from corrosion, and there are leaks at the welds of the heat exchanger tube sheets. The problem is that welding is not possible – any attempt at welding results in cracking. Please analyze why this happens, given that the material used is 304.
Welding generates thermal stress, which will definitely cause more cracking as welding proceeds. It would be better to use polymer materials for repair, with construction at room temperature. Safe and reliable!
The use of graphite heat exchangers and graphite distillation columns can fundamentally solve the corrosion problem. --
I think the pipeline can be temporarily connected using Haf joints； Then, during welding, remove a portion of the faulty pipe and perform TIG welding with a lower current setting.

Thank you all for your attention and responses. Thermal stress certainly exists, but other equipment can be welded as well. I have been suspecting that the material properties have changed; but what factors are at play and how do they exert an influence?
