Our company recently has a foreign-made liquefied gas storage tank with a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters; its design pressure is 1.77 MPa and its diameter is 19.7 meters. The materials required are those in accordance with ASME standards. What materials should be used? A preliminary calculation shows that SA516.70 would require a thickness of 64 mm. Considering factors such as cost and manufacturing complexity, is there any more suitable steel grade?
There must be many similar spherical tanks in the country – can’t we use those as a reference?
I don’t know much about this; from some domestic examples I’ve seen, the material used is Q345R. For Japanese steel, G516.70 has been used. I’m looking to find out if there are any materials that meet American standards and are also more cost-effective.

There are also the materials mentioned by the original poster, plus one type of stainless steel; I forgot what the grade is called. Generally, for the volume and medium mentioned by the poster, it is recommended to use SA537CL2; we can continue the discussion.
According to ASME standards, materials with domestic grades cannot be used; only ASME-approved materials are permitted. . ?
By the way, if the owner is from Africa**, they might be willing to accept products that meet China’s national standards; we have previous experience with similar projects. You can talk to the owner.
We use Q370R for the spherical tanks designed with these parameters.
Stress analysis is employed to minimize the wall thickness of the spherical tank.
