Artificial aging primarily focuses on examining the aging behavior of materials under conditions such as light, heat, oxygen, and ozone, simulating real-world scenarios. It has many similarities to environmental testing, but its focus and emphasis are different.
By artificially creating an environment of material aging, the tested materials are accelerated in their aging process.

Some non-metals, organic coatings, rubbers, plastics, etc., may gradually oxidize in the atmosphere; Under the action of sunlight (ultraviolet rays), its molecular structure or bonding bonds also undergo changes, a process commonly referred to as “aging”. “\"Artificial aging\" means creating an \"aging chamber\" equipped with ultraviolet emission devices and sufficient oxygen, in which the aging process of the test specimens is accelerated within this \"artificial environment\". The specific method involves placing the specimen in an aging chamber and conducting tests according to a certain protocol (such as exposure to ultraviolet light for different periods of time). After a certain period of time (the test cycle), the degree of aging of the specimen (material) is examined and evaluated (with various protocols and standards available). “The “artificial aging” test has now become one of the common testing and inspection methods. For corrosion protection, the aging resistance of various organic coatings is an important technical parameter for determining their service life; therefore, this method is also one of the key evaluation approaches for selecting coatings with good durability.
