To achieve water conservation, some companies reuse the treated water from their sulfur plants, as this treated water appears colorless and free of impurities, making it suitable for use. So, add this amount of water to the circulating water. By using reduced-pressure and atmospheric-pressure units as well as heavy oil catalytic units for just over a year, some water was indeed saved. However, due to use, some of the equipment has suffered significant corrosion. As usual, the atmospheric and vacuum desalination water pumps have not used sulfur-processed water, and no problems have occurred after 14 years of use. After using sulfur-treated water for over 2 years, severe impeller corrosion occurred, so the impeller was replaced. Moreover, in less than a year, the water coolers of the production units experienced leaks in 40 to 50 units, severely affecting the safe operation of these units. The image below is the corrosion test report for the quality of water reused in refineries. The report shows that the corrosion rate of the treated water is nearly 10 times higher than that of the circulating water. Therefore, the water treated by the sulfur plant cannot be used in the circulating water.
