Everyone is welcome to share cases of equipment corrosion and damage in their work (only for special materials used in highly corrosive environments: enamel, plastic lining, silicon carbide, graphite). I can assist with the analysis and help us explore solutions together. I’ll throw out some ideas to stimulate further discussion
Let me start by discussing a few points. 1. Enameling: There are many reasons for damage to enameled surfaces – quality issues with the enamel itself, corrosion caused by thermal shock, corrosion resulting from mechanical impact, problems arising from uneven tightening of flanges that leads to excessive local stress and subsequent damage to the enamel, leakage due to gaskets that causes leaks on the outside of the pipe ends, corrosion caused by excessive pressure, and instability leading to damage due to external pressure. All these are cases of enamel corrosion caused by external factors. If corrosion is caused by the nature of the medium used, it usually manifests as uniform corrosion, with a rough and dull surface being the most common symptom. If the damage occurs on the side of the glass-enameled steel plate (such as the jacket side), it is related to the quality of the water in the jacket, the quality of the enamel material itself, and welding issues. 2. Lining with plastic: Improper selection of the lining process, high temperatures at the welding points during the installation of plastic lining sheets, penetration of small molecules due to rotational molding processes, deformation due to external pressure, detachment due to high temperatures, and detachment due to excessive stress. 3. Silicon carbide: This is mainly used in heat exchangers; issues include broken heat exchange tubes and leaks in these tubes (though this happens quite rarely, proper quality control of suppliers can help prevent it). There are also leaks at the sealing points (this is a technical challenge that experts are working to overcome, so I won’t go into details here). 4.
