The company has a self-priming pump, and the model of its mechanical seal is CT9-30, which includes rubber. After replacing the mechanical seal, it was used in the department to handle acid, and later for handling MTBE. A few days later, the mechanical seal ended up in this condition. Basically, all common rubbers are not suitable for MTBE; the perfluorotetrapropylene rubber listed as suitable on corrosion charts also performs poorly in practical applications. In the end, we replaced everything with perfluoroethers.
