Can fiberglass storage tanks resist methanol corrosion?

The fiberglass-reinforced plastic storage tank is used for storing hydrochloric acid. Due to issues in the production process, trace amounts of methanol end up in the hydrochloric acid – presumably not more than 1%. This has caused corrosion in the fiberglass tank, with the inner layer peeling off. The impeller of the transfer pump is also made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic, and it shows signs of significant corrosion. I’m not sure if it’s caused by methanol.
Methanol falls under the category of solvents, so it can dissolve certain polymer materials. When epoxy resin comes into contact with methanol, significant corrosion occurs.

It depends on the resin you choose for your fiberglass storage tank; there’s a certain timeframe within which the resin remains effective. Inner layer delamination may be caused by the corrosion of the resin.
