Reverse osmosis water is used for water makeup; alkali and trisodium phosphate are added to adjust the alkalinity and hardness. The pH of the boiler water is 11.6–11.7, the phenolphthalein alkalinity is 5.9–6.3 mmol/L, the total alkalinity is around 7.2 mmol/L, and the total hardness is 0.02 mmol/L. After the reverse osmosis water emerges from the water production machine, it travels through a pipe section of approximately 800 meters in length; this pipe is made of 201 stainless steel and forms part of the external network connecting the different areas of the factory. Once inside the factory, PPR hot water pipes and PVC pipes are used. The reverse osmosis water has a chloride ion concentration of 5.93 mg/L, a hardness of 0.032 mmol/L, and a pH of around 6.5. The boiler is a 6-ton natural gas low-pressure steam boiler without a deaerator.
By performing ion chromatography and atomic absorption analysis, we can find out what’s there.
The alkalinity of the boiler water is too high – 7.2 mmol/L, which is equivalent to 288 mg/L. It is recommended to increase the amount of wastewater discharged; there’s no need to add more alkali – sodium triphosphate will suffice
Isn’t converting millimoles of alkalinity to milligrams a matter of multiplying by one hundred?
