We currently have a hydrochloride product of an organic compound; the crystallization mother liquor contains approximately 20,000–30,000 ppm of chloride ions, has a pH of around 2, and a temperature of around 20 degrees. We are facing significant difficulties in choosing the appropriate material for the centrifuge. Static hanging experiments using coupons made of materials such as zirconium, 316L, 904L, TA2, 2205, 2507, 321, and Hastelloy C276 were conducted (at room temperature, sealed with plastic wrap). These coupons were left in place for nearly two months, and the results showed that: 1. Lined materials can be used; since 2010, we have been employing lined flat-blade scrapers combined with automatic centrifuges for unloading at the bottom in waste hydrochloric acid evaporation and crystallization units. The service life is quite good.
Is using plastic lining a better solution for preventing static electricity?
We have used centrifuges with carbon steel linings made of Hala; they work fine under normal conditions. However, sometimes crystals can get stuck, and attempts to clear them out can easily puncture the Hala lining, leading to corrosion. We have now changed our manufacturing process and want to use a two-in-one centrifuge made entirely of metal; therefore, we are currently looking for the appropriate material. Since our products are sensitive to iron ions (due to quality requirements), titanium is the material that is expected to be used. The question now is how to proceed with further evaluation

May I ask: 1. Is it carbon steel lined with plastic? 2. Has there been any occurrence of the lining peeling off? (We have used centrifuges with carbon steel linings made of Halar; they work fine under normal conditions. However, sometimes crystals get stuck, and when we try to clear them out, it’s easy to damage the Halar lining, leading to corrosion.) )?
Using paint should also work; its adhesion is much better than that of the lining material. I hope this can help you.
