In actual painting operations, there are many situations in which it is not possible to perform sandblasting on equipment and similar items. In addition to the special conditions of the equipment and steel structures themselves, there are also increasingly strict fire and explosion prevention regulations, as well as environmental protection laws and health and safety rules. In particular, for a large number of large-scale equipment that requires anti-corrosion maintenance as well as steel structures, sandblasting is difficult to apply; manual or mechanical treatment finds it hard to meet standards above St2. Moreover, there are numerous old coatings on the metal surfaces that are difficult to remove. Under such conditions, when using anti-corrosion materials with a non-refined, low-surface-treatment finish, it is necessary that they provide a high level of corrosion protection, as in the case of the equipment and steel structures shown in the image below.
In practical applications, if sandblasting the metal surface is not possible, high-performance coatings that do not require sandblasting can be used. This type of coating is suitable for metal surfaces where it is difficult to remove old coatings or that do not meet the St2 mechanical treatment standard, providing excellent corrosion protection. .
