Pitting corrosion is a form of local corrosion in which, due to the destruction of the passivation film on the surface of a metal or alloy, rapid dissolution occurs in very small areas, resulting in pinhole-like or pit-shaped corrosion. The characteristics of pitting are as follows: Localized nature: Corrosion occurs in a very small area, while the rest of the surface remains intact. High concealment: Pitting pits are often very small and not easily visible to the naked eye, but the depth of corrosion can be much greater than their surface diameter. High risk: Even if the overall thinning of the metal is not significant, equipment failure can still occur due to perforations or cracks.
