Sinopec has achieved significant results by applying composite panel anti-corrosion technology in various refining units, effectively extending the service life of the equipment and reducing maintenance costs. In the atmospheric distillation unit of Zhenhai Refining & Chemical, after the top shell of the atmospheric tower was manufactured using 20R+0Cr13 composite steel, the equipment operated continuously for over 4 years under conditions involving high-sulfur crude oil without suffering any severe corrosion, resulting in cost savings of around 30% on maintenance expenses compared to traditional carbon steel. Maoming Petrochemical used Q245R+316L composite plates at the top of the vacuum tower, successfully resisting the combined corrosion caused by high-temperature sulfides and chlorides; as a result, the period during which the equipment could operate without leaks increased from 18 months to over 3 operating cycles. In addition, Qingdao Refining & Chemical applies a stainless steel + CTS anti-coking film layer composite technology to the tray components, resulting in a Cr₂O₃ film thickness of 500 nm. This extends the lifespan of the trays to 1–2 operating cycles and significantly reduces unplanned shutdowns. These cases show that composite panels not only enhance the safety of the installations but also bring significant economic benefits.
