Unconstrained bellows compensator setup

Page 358 of the \"National Training Manual for Design Approval Personnel of Pressure Pipelines\" (2nd edition) outlines five points regarding the installation of bellows compensators; the second point states that the pipeline between the two fixed supports should have the same diameter and be in a straight line. I don’t understand why the diameter has to be the same – could someone please explain this? Thank you!
As long as the pipes are on the same axis, what does the change in diameter matter? Can’t understand
