Cloud computing gas-liquid separator residence time issue

Why must the residence time in cloud computing gas-liquid separators be only 6–9 minutes? I’ve seen in some books that the design values are higher than this; and if I want to increase it, it’s no longer possible to do so. Is there some special reason for this limitation?
It is clearly inappropriate to express the residence time in a gas-liquid separator in minutes; what is crucial for such a separator is its internal structure, which facilitates gas-liquid separation.
