CAD Fatal error: Insufficient memory

Fatal error: Insufficient memory – shutting down. The operating system is W10. CAD 2007/2011/2016 are all installed. The CAD file is 20MB, and sometimes it crashes frequently. After a crash, my screen display becomes abnormal. Has anyone encountered this issue? What’s the problem? Can it be solved?
1. Remove redundant layers and content, purge them, PU； 2. Change to another computer; if that’s not possible, use an external reference.
I usually clean up PU commands after finishing drawing; it’s a habit of mine. It’s frozen now; it crashes as soon as I open the image, but sometimes it doesn’t crash! How do I change an external reference?
Keep the source file and save it as several smaller files, each containing only a portion of the layers; then create a new drawing and link in all these files. If that still doesn’t work, it’s either the computer or the software that’s problematic; replace it. Insert - External Reference - Find the corresponding file - Open it; leave both the coordinates and the insertion point unchanged, using the system defaults.
