There are two modes for printing CAD drawings: one is printing from model space, and the other is printing from layout space. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each method, and which one is more suitable for you? As shown in the figure below, when CAD is opened, Model Space is activated automatically, and it is in this space that people usually carry out design and drawing tasks. The “Layout 1” and “Layout 2” options next to the model tab are both layout spaces, also known as paper spaces. Each DWG document has only one model space, but it can have multiple layout spaces. Below are the advantages and disadvantages of the two drawing modes: 1. Advantages of drawing in model space: All drawings are displayed in one view, making them easier to view. Compared to generating layout plans, the settings for creating a first plan are fewer, the operations are simpler, and it is easier to understand. Disadvantage: When there are many sheets with varying sizes, it is necessary to adjust the size of the drawing frames in advance based on the output scale; otherwise, the annotation scale will not match the view. It is not possible to set it once and generate multiple outputs; moreover, changing the output scale requires a significant amount of work. When printing, a window needs to be selected, and it is also necessary to go to model space to capture the position. 2. The layout space output method separates drawing from outputting: when drawing, it is sufficient to do so at a 1:1 scale, while when exporting the image, the output scale and frame size are set within the layout space. Advantages: Multiple sizes can be generated from the same drawing, with consistent font height, requiring only adjustments to the scale values. If a certain component in the drawing needs to be enlarged 4 times locally, it is sufficient to create one additional viewport, add a dimension style to reduce the measurement scale of the dimensions (for example, if the original scale is 1, change it to 1/4), and check the option to apply it only to the layout. The scaling factor for the output image is easy to determine, resulting in low costs associated with trial and error. Batch printing can be done conveniently. When generating images repeatedly, there are fewer operations required, and no need to set things up again and again. Select the layout when printing; no snapping or positioning is required. Disadvantage: It is not intuitive for searching when there are many drawings. Once the layout settings are set, any changes to the drawing in model space will be reflected in the layout as well. Special attention is required to determine whether the currently selected item in the layout space is a drawing or a model; if it is a model, scaling will also affect the proportions of the layout. In summary, the editor suggests that everyone choose an appropriate output mode based on their own actual circumstances. But if the output image is large, it is still advisable to make use of layout spaces for creating the image, as this will yield better results with less effort! Next, the editor will demonstrate to you how to create a layout. The layouts in HaoChen CAD are similar to sheets in Excel. There are various ways to create new layouts; to gain a better understanding of them, the author used the \"Layout Wizard\" to create new layouts. The steps are as follows: 1. In the traditional interface, select from the drop-down menu: [Insert] – [Layout] – [Create Layout Wizard]. 2. In the \"Create Layout\" panel that appears, we first name the layout, choose the printer, select the paper size, and determine the paper orientation. Since a layout can only hold one drawing, one frame, the size of the drawing to be printed should be selected in advance. For each set of drawings (drawing frames) in a DWG file, one new layout should be created. 3. Next, insert the title bar. The title bar should be prepared in advance according to the requirements of the design unit, and copied to the specified directory for easy access at any time. 4. Define the viewport. The viewport scale is the same as the output scale; however, since layout issues are still a concern, scaling or translating during the editing process may disrupt this scale, so it can be ignored for now and will be set separately later. For several views in one diagram, there should be as many viewports as there are views; for example, if a diagram contains two views, two new viewports should be created. However, due to layout considerations, we can choose one viewport for now, or decide not to set any viewports at this stage. 5. The pickup position refers to the specific layout of the viewport within the drawing frame. There are two viewports in the diagram above; they should be arranged side by side, but the exact size and position of the viewports may require multiple adjustments. Here we can first roughly determine the size and position of the viewport, which can be adjusted later. If there are any issues with the above settings, they can be modified later by right-clicking on that layout tab and selecting [Page Setup Manager].
