Attachment and coverage scenarios 1: File A is attached and referenced to file B. When file B is attached and referenced to file C, file A will be included. Scene 2: File A is referenced to file B by overwriting. When file B is attached and referenced to file C, file A will be lost and only file B will be referenced. The simple explanation is that after A uses an attached reference to file B, it will always follow B. No matter how many times B is referenced by other files, A will follow it to the death. If A uses an overlay to reference B, A will dump B after B is referenced by other files. By borrowing this feature, some elements in the building use overlay reference. When other majors use the building as a base map, those parts that are not needed by other majors will be automatically lost. 2. The path type is very important. If it is not clear, it will easily lead to a lack of reference! ! (1) After using the full path reference, the file cannot be moved in any way. When loading a reference, it is a no brainer to search for the reference at the specified location. If there is no reference, the reference is missing. (2) Using relative path reference, as long as the relative position between the reference and the referenced file does not change, it can be referenced. Everything written in the path is ".\" and "..\" which means this folder and jumping to a folder, and the relative path is the path starting from the current path. The relative path will search the files in the entire hard disk partition until the nearest reference is found, which is more flexible. Usually we set it to a relative path. Note that relative paths cannot cross drive letters. (3) No path reference, the two files need to be in the same folder. 3. Binding and inserting are also very important. If you are not careful, it will cause the loss of layer properties, annotation styles, text styles, and tiles. Depending on the needs, sometimes it is necessary to bind the external reference to the file. There are two types of binding.: Binding and insertion. binding: Binds selected xrefs to the current drawing. The name of an attribute or object that relies on external reference naming will be changed from the reference name|The definition name becomes the reference name $n$ definition name. These properties and objects include layers, text styles, dimension styles, blocks, and line types. For example, if the xref named Drawing3 contains a layer named WALL, before binding, the layer name displayed in the layer manager is Drawing3.|WALL, after binding the external reference, the layer name will become the internal definition layer of Drawing3$0$WALL. If an internal named object with the same name already exists, the number in $n$ will be automatically incremented. (Before binding) (After binding) Insert: When inserting, the names of named attributes or objects that rely on external references do not use the "block name $n $ symbol name" method, but directly remove the external reference name from the name. For an inserted drawing, if the named object of the current drawing has the same name as a bound named object that depends on an external reference, a new name will not be added to the symbol table, and the bound named object that depends on an external reference will adopt the properties of the named object defined in the current drawing. It should be noted here that if the named object properties defined in the current diagram are different from the reference file, the original properties of the reference file will be lost. Using the same example, if an xref named Drawing3 contains a layer named WALL, then after binding the xref using the Insert option, the layer Drawing3 that depends on the xref|WALL will be WALL. If there is a WALL layer in this picture, use the settings of the WALL layer in this picture directly.
