In their daily drawing work, designers often use the Haochen CAD software to open structural drawings sent by others; sometimes, after the drawings are opened, the rebar symbols appear as question marks. So, as a CAD designer, how should one address such a situation? After careful research, I found that the general situations can be divided into two types. Let’s take a look at the relevant CAD tutorials! I. Lack of CAD fonts: When opening a drawing, if the font required for that drawing is not found in the path specified by the HaoChen CAD software, HaoChen CAD will display a dialog box asking for a replacement font. At this point, you can choose another font to use as a replacement, or simply ignore the issue. The result of simply ignoring this issue might be that not only will the rebar symbols appear as question marks, but other Chinese characters and symbols as well will show up as question marks. The result of selecting a replacement font may be that most characters display properly, while rebar symbols or certain other symbols do not display. II. Incorrect CAD font: When opening drawings with the Haochen CAD software, no message indicating a missing font is displayed, which means that all the fonts required for the drawings are present. Yet, the rebar symbols still appear as question marks. Why is that? When opening a drawing, HaoChen CAD searches for the corresponding font based on the file name, but font files with the same name are not necessarily identical; there may be multiple versions of a font with the same name, or the font file might lack the characters corresponding to rebar symbols. In either case, the solution is the same: find the right font. Reinforcement symbols are rather special; some of them are ordinary symbols. For example, if the diameter symbol does not display properly, you can try using a certain font from the operating system (*.ttf). Reinforcement symbols, on the other hand, are defined only in CAD fonts (SHX); therefore, it is necessary to find an SHX font that contains the definitions for reinforcement symbols. If the drawings were sent by someone else, it’s best to ask them for the font file used for the rebar symbols. If finding it is too troublesome, you can use the electronic transmission feature to package the drawings and the font together into a compressed file. If the drawing was downloaded from the internet, the only thing that can be done is to check the font style and typeface used for the text marked with a question mark, and see if the same typeface can be found online. If there is a font with the same name but a question mark still appears, then try searching online for other versions of that same font. The definition of these special symbols may vary depending on the font used; in HaoChen CAD, the commonly used fonts for entering rebar symbols are: small font: tssdeng.shx, large font: tssdchn.shx. After placing the font in the FONTS folder located within the HaoChen CAD installation directory, the settings for text styles are as follows: For this font, the codes to be used for entering different types of rebar symbols are %%130, %%131, %%132, and %%133. It should also be noted that these codes do not work when used in multi-line text, as shown in the figure below. There are also some other fonts; when entered, they produce effects different from this font, as shown in the figure below. These special fonts are usually defined by third-party developers, so their input rules are not exactly the same. If you want the drawings to display properly, it’s best to find the original font. In HaoChen CAD, tssdeng.shx and tssdchn.shx, or txt1.shx and hztxt.shx can be used. If there are other fonts that can be used to input rebar symbols, simply copy them into the FONTS folder located in the HaoChen CAD installation directory.
