Tutorial on Building CAD Drawing: Drawing Double-Flight Stairs. First, open the HaoChen CAD building software, then locate and click sequentially on Building Design → Stairs → Other → Double-Flight Stairs (SPLT). After selecting a menu command, the default collapsed dialog box shown in the figure below is displayed. Click “Other Parameters” to expand the folded content, as shown in the figure below. Instructions for the double-flight staircase dialog box controls: [Stairwell Width] – the total width of the double-flight staircase. Click the button to directly measure the net width of the stairwell from the plan as the total width of the double-flight staircase. 【Stair width】The default width or one calculated from the total width, with the remaining amount divided equally to serve as the initial value for the stair width; clicking the button allows direct measurement from the plan view. 【Stair Height】The total height of a double-flight staircase; by default, it takes the value of the current floor height. When the heights of adjacent floors differ, it should be adjusted according to the actual situation. 【Well Width】Set the well width parameter; well width = landing width – (2 × step width). The minimum well width can be 0, and these three values are interrelated. 【Total Steps】The default value for the total number of steps is 20; it is a key parameter for double-flight stairs. 【Number of Runs】The number of first runs and second runs is calculated based on the total number of steps; when the total is odd, the number of second runs is increased first. 【Number of Second Runs】The number of second runs is set to the same as the number of first runs by default, and both can be modified by the user. 【Step Height】The height of the step. Users can first enter an approximate initial value, and the design value closest to this initial value will be calculated based on the stair height and the number of steps; there is a rounding error due to the equal distribution of the step heights. 【Step Width】The width of the step in the direction of the stair rung; it is a parameter related to stairs that users decide on first. However, once the option \"As a ramp\" is selected, it is used only to determine the width of the anti-slip strip. 【Rest Platform】 offers three options: rectangular, curved, and none. For rest platforms that are not rectangular, it is possible to select \"none\" so that one can use the tablet function to design the rest platform themselves. 【Platform width】According to building design codes, the width of the resting platform should be greater than that of the staircase. When choosing an arc-shaped resting platform, the width value must be adjusted, and it cannot be zero. 【Step Alignment】Besides being able to directly choose the relative position of the two stair sections from options such as \"Align at Platform\", \"Centered\", and \"Align at Floor Level\" when the number of steps differs, it is also possible to adjust the position between the two stair sections by dragging the grip points; in this case, the step alignment is set to \"Free\". 【Layer Type】In the floor plan, it is drawn in three types according to the floor level: 1. For the ground floor, only a single cross-section is shown ; 2. The first run in the middle layer features double segmentation ; 3. There is no cross-section at the top level. The 【armrest height and width】 values are 900 for height, with an armrest cross-sectional dimension of 60X100. 【Armrest distance from edge】: 100; generally 0 is taken on drawings, while the actual value should be indicated on 1:50 detail drawings. 【Corner Handrail Extension】The extension length at the corner of the handrail on the rest platform; the default value is 60. If it is set to 0 or a negative value, the handrail will not extend. 【Inter-floor handrail extension】The extension length at the end and corners of the inter-floor handrail; the default value is 60. When it is set to 0 or a negative value, the handrail does not extend. 【Handrail Connection】Check this option to connect the handrail when it passes over rest platforms and floors; otherwise, the handrail will break at those locations. 【With outer handrail】A handrail is added on the side, but no outer railing will be created; this option should be selected for outdoor stairs. 【With outer railing】When drawing handrails, you can choose whether to include the drawing of an outer railing; when the boundary is a wall, it is often not necessary to draw a railing. 【With inner railing】Create an inner handrail; check this checkbox to automatically generate a vertical railing with a default rectangular cross-section. 【Mark Up/Down Direction】Check this option to create arrows indicating the up and down directions as well as the words “Up” and “Down” within the stair object, in accordance with the direction of the current coordinate system. 【Cutting Step Count】When it comes to stairs, the position of the cutting line’s center is determined based on the number of steps; when it’s a ramp, the position of the cutting line’s center is determined based on the relative elevation. 【As a ramp】This checkbox allows the stair segment to be created as a ramp; the dialog box will display an input field for \"single ramp length\" where the length can be entered. Precautions for drawing double-flight stairs in architectural CAD software: 1. Before checking the option “As ramp”, it is necessary that the number of steps in each flight of the stairs be equal; otherwise, the length of the ramp cannot be defined accurately ; 2. The spacing of the anti-slip strips on the ramp is set in steps, and it must be determined before checking the option “As a ramp”. After determining the parameters and type of the staircase, the walls (doors and windows) are first selected based on the space where the staircase will be located; the width of the staircase area and the width of each flight of stairs are calculated automatically. A preview is provided for inserting the staircase, and the command line prompts: Select the wall or door/window on one side of the staircase platform: Choose the wall or door/window on one side of the platform to define the space where the staircase will be placed ; Click on the side of the staircase leading upstairs to insert it: Drag to preview and select the side going upstairs to place a point, or press the space bar to insert the staircase. The image below shows the insertion of regular windows and corner windows in different directions leading upstairs. For stairs, the wall (doors and windows) can be used to determine the net width of the stairwell, from which the width of the landing is calculated. The rule is: half of the width of the staircase landing is used as the control value for the width of the resting platform. This value is compared with the platform width shown in the dialog box; if it is smaller, the latter value is used, while if it is larger, the control value for the platform width is applied. This approach ensures design flexibility while also meeting the requirements set by regulations regarding evacuation, as shown in the figure below. In situations where it is not appropriate to choose walls and doors/windows (such as when aligning them with stair treads or using a fixed stair tread width), type option F to switch to free insertion. The command prompt will read: Select a position or : Type a keyword to change the option and insert the stairs at that point. Please select the wall or door/window on one side of the staircase landing: After free insertion is completed, revert to the default selection of the wall or door/window on one side of the staircase landing, then press Enter to exit the command.
