Production Capacity According to statistics from the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, as of the end of 2019, the national capacity for synthetic ammonia production was 66.19 million tons, a decrease of 2.1% compared to the previous year; the capacity for urea production was 66.68 million tons in terms of physical volume, representing a 4.1% decline compared to the previous year. II. Production figures According to statistics from the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, in 2019 the country produced a total of 57.579 million tons of synthetic ammonia, representing a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year ； The output of nitrogen fertilizers was 39.647 million tons, representing a 4.1% increase on a year-on-year basis; among these, the output of urea was 54.752 million tons in terms of physical volume, with a 5.2% increase compared to the previous year. III. Import and Export Situation: Throughout 2019, China imported a total of 320,000 tons of nitrogen fertilizers, a decrease of 3.8% compared to the previous year ； The cumulative import value reached 5.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.1% ； 5.844 million tons of nitrogen fertilizers were exported, a year-on-year increase of 37.2% ； The cumulative export value reached 45.36 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%. In 2019, China’s total imports of urea amounted to 181,000 tons, representing a 11.0% increase on a year-on-year basis. The total value of these imports was 46.54 million US dollars, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year ； The cumulative export volume reached 4.945 million tons, a 102.4% increase on a year-on-year basis, while the cumulative export value amounted to 1.4 billion US dollars, representing an 81.5% increase compared to the previous year. IV. Apparent consumption levels: In 2019, China’s apparent consumption of nitrogen fertilizers was 34.123 million tons (in terms of pure content), representing a 0.13% decrease compared to the previous year. Among these, the apparent consumption of urea was 49.988 million tons (in physical terms), showing an increase of 0.4% on a year-on-year basis. V. Price situation: In 2019, the average ex-plant price of urea was 1,839 yuan per ton, a decrease of 4.7% compared to the previous year ； The average ex-factory price of ammonium bicarbonate was 608 yuan per ton, a decrease of 13.4% on a year-on-year basis. VI. Performance Metrics **According to data from the Statistics Bureau, the main business revenue of the nitrogen fertilizer industry from January to December 2019 was 211.74 billion yuan, a decrease of 10.6% compared to the previous year** ； The total profit across the industry was 6.07 billion yuan, a decrease of 60.9% on a year-on-year basis. From January to December 2019, 190 nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers were counted, of which 62 were operating at a loss; this represents an increase of 13 companies compared to the previous year. The proportion of companies in the industry that were losing money was 32.6%, up by 26.5 percentage points on a year-on-year basis ； Losses for loss-making enterprises amounted to 10.29 billion yuan, an increase of 4.78 billion yuan on a year-on-year basis, representing a 86.6% rise in losses.
