Has there been any thinning of the pipes in ammonia synthesis plants, such as at the outlet elbows of the high-pressure boiler feedwater heat exchangers or in the drain lines at the outlet of the synthesis tower? We plan to carry out inspections as part of a major overhaul. Since we lack experience in this area, we would like to ask experts which specific pipes should be given priority in inspection?

Recommendation: During maintenance, it is advisable to discuss and communicate thoroughly with the personnel in the production system to identify areas that are prone to erosion, such as elbows, tees, and reducers in locations subject to high temperatures, high pressures, or corrosive conditions, and to conduct thickness measurements in these areas.
