Last week, the China Humic Acid Industry Association issued a notice titled “On Vigorously Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Humic Acid Water-Soluble Fertilizer Industry,” calling on all stakeholders in this industry to leverage the advantages of industrial integration based on the “humic acid+” concept in order to drive the high-quality development of this sector. This effort is aimed at contributing more significantly to ensuring the supply of primary agricultural products in China, safeguarding the safe production of grain, and achieving the goal of reducing fertilizer-related carbon emissions at an earlier date. According to statistics, in 1989, 3 out of the first 7 water-soluble fertilizer products registered by the Ministry of Agriculture were humic acid-based water-soluble fertilizers. By 2012, the number of such registered products had exceeded 100. By 2018, there was a rapid increase in their number, reaching 1,348. As of January 10, 2022, the number of registered humic acid-based water-soluble fertilizer products was as high as 3,723, with over 2,000 companies having registered such products. The Notice states that vigorously promoting the high-quality development of the humic acid water-soluble fertilizer industry is not only the direction for achieving carbon peak targets in fertilizer use, as well as for making fertilizers more efficient and production processes more automated, but it is also an effective measure to increase crop yields and overall production levels, improve the quality of agricultural products, and enhance crops’ resilience to natural disasters. It is furthermore an important tool for the development of high-standard farmland, the protection of black soil, and the improvement of farmland quality. In modern agricultural production, a \"golden chain\" of \"humic acid water-soluble fertilizers – three-dimensional fertilization of plants – superior seed quality – environmental friendliness in farming areas\" has been established. Humic acid combines nutrient efficacy, regulatory efficacy, quality improvement efficacy, economic benefits, and environmental benefits, exhibiting remarkable characteristics due to its diversified integration. For diversified agricultural production, the integrated advantages of \"humic acid+\\" should be fully utilized – that is, humic acid combined with a large range of elements including major elements, minor elements, trace elements, microorganisms, as well as other organic and inorganic nutrients. As a result, such products will become increasingly specialized, their scope of application will expand, market development opportunities will increase, and their integrated advantages will become more prominent. The Notice emphasizes that at present, China’s 1.8 billion mu of arable land is characterized by \"three highs\" – namely high degree of intensification, high cropping index, and high intensity of use. Humic acid water-soluble fertilizers have been widely applied to more than 100 types of crops, including field crops, fruit trees, solanaceous plants, cucurbits, root vegetables, tubers, leafy vegetables, stem vegetables, onions and garlic, as well as edible fungi. The results of their use in fields are significant, and there is a high degree of suitability for these crops. Nationwide, the area covered by techniques for water-saving dry farming exceeds 400 million mu, with water-soluble fertilizers playing a key role, among which humic acid-based water-soluble fertilizers are the most dynamic. Today, humic acid water-soluble fertilizers serve as the \"ideal partner\" in the \"one spray, three protections\" technique for wheat, helping to ensure stable and increased yields on 350 million mu of wheat fields. In the future, as drone technology is widely applied in fields such as agriculture, forestry, and grassland management, humic acid water-soluble fertilizers will gain an increasingly larger market share due to their advantages of low usage, high efficiency, and environmental friendliness, offering even broader prospects for development.
