The flue gas desulfurization unit is equipped with two slurry absorption systems, which are responsible for treating and purifying the raw flue gas from three boilers. These systems represent important environmental protection facilities for the company; their stable operation is directly related to ensuring that the flue gas is discharged in compliance with regulations, and they play a crucial role in the company’s environmental protection efforts. Since the commissioning of the second-stage absorption system following the completion of the Renovation for the colored smoke plume control project on January 18, 2020, it has not had any opportunity to stop operating and has been in continuous use for two years. Over the past two years, the secondary absorption system has operated relatively stably. However, due to its long operating time, the levels of COD and iron ions in the slurry are high, resulting in poor quality of the slurry. This, in turn, leads to poor crystal formation in the subsequent production process, posing potential risks to the safe operation of the system. 2021 was a challenging year for the desulfurization system: the absorption systems in phases 1 and 2 had been in operation for over a year, the quality of the slurry was poor, crystal formation in the subsequent systems was inadequate, and production became relatively passive. To ensure the stable operation of the system, the plant’s management and technicians pay close attention to its performance, taking various measures to guarantee its safe and stable operation. First, since the service life of the dust collection bag filters in the three boilers is approaching and there have been instances of bag damage leading to dust leakage, it is necessary to closely monitor changes in the dust levels at the outlet of the dust collectors, so that any abnormal changes can be detected promptly and appropriate actions can be taken. The desulfurization unit also monitors carefully the dust content in the raw flue gas as well as the amount of sediment in the slurry, in order to maintain the stable operation of the system ; Second, strengthen process management, strictly control process parameters, and optimize process adjustments to ensure the system remains stable. In August 2021, the quality of the slurry in Phase 2 deteriorated; the crystallization process in the evaporation unit of that system was poor, the slurry temperature was high, and the operating cycle of the system was short. In light of these issues with the slurry quality in Phase 2’s absorption system, the branch factory took immediate action to find solutions without waiting for external assistance. It developed strategies for process adjustments, adopting an approach in which the later-stage system was used primarily to process the slurry from Phase 1, with the Phase 2 absorption system serving as a secondary means. This approach allowed Phase 1 to assist in processing the slurry from Phase 2, thereby extending the production cycle of the later-stage system while ensuring stable control over the density of the slurry in the absorption system – thus laying a technical foundation for improving the situation in that system as soon as possible ; Thirdly, proactive equipment management is a prerequisite for ensuring the stable operation of the system. Given the long operational lifespan of the system, it is crucial to maintain the safety and stability of the equipment and facilities. In addition to regular planned maintenance and repairs, detailed plans for equipment refurbishment should be established; each piece of equipment in Phase II needs to be inspected and repaired in order to eliminate potential issues during operation. In February 2021, due to the low pressure at the inlet of the slurry discharge pump feeding into the filter press, the amount of slurry discharged from the filter press was low and its operating cycle was short, which made it difficult to extract the slurry. The branch factory promptly carried out technical modifications by upgrading pump A, increasing its power, pressure, and head. After its installation, the results were excellent, fully meeting the system’s requirements and ensuring effective extraction and optimization of the slurry in the system. The second-phase absorption system is able to operate stably over long periods of time thanks to the strong support of the leadership team at the power plant, to a team of technicians who are highly skilled and proficient in their work, to a workforce that is cohesive and competent, as well as to the excellent work ethic of the employees at the power plant – their willingness to endure hardships and make sacrifices, along with their ability to take on and succeed in challenging tasks. The long-term operation of the absorption system not only lays the foundation for the stable long-term operation of the company’s production system, but also makes a significant contribution to ensuring that the company meets environmental emission standards.
