The hydrogen energy-synthetic ammonia integration optimization project of Shanxi Tongzhou Coal and Coke Group is about to enter the trial operation phase. It took only one year from the signing of the agreement to theほぼ complete construction of the main facilities for this project. At present, the project has fully entered the equipment commissioning phase, with trial operation expected to begin in early May, paving a new path for the traditional coal and coke industry to extend and enhance its value chains and transition toward fine chemicals and clean energy. Shanxi Tongzhou Coal and Coke Group produces 500 million cubic meters of coke oven gas per year, which contains large amounts of hydrogen resources. To address challenges such as the difficulty in storing and transporting hydrogen, the group adopts a \"hydrogen-to-ammonia conversion\" technology route to convert hydrogen into liquid ammonia, allowing for convenient transportation using tank trucks. At the same time, internationally advanced isothermal shift and pressure swing adsorption technologies are introduced to facilitate the efficient conversion of coke oven gas into high-purity hydrogen and synthetic ammonia. The isothermal conversion process offers advantages such as low land usage, a short process flow, high degree of mechanization, excellent safety performance, and low investment costs. The project adopts a flexible operation mode that produces more ammonia during off-peak times and more hydrogen during peak times, thereby ensuring the continuous and stable operation of the production facilities and improving energy utilization efficiency as well as the overall efficiency of the system. Once the project is fully operational, it will be able to produce 160 million standard cubic meters of pure hydrogen and 80,000 tons of synthetic ammonia per year. The purity of the hydrogen produced will reach 99.99%, ensuring high quality that makes it suitable for a wide range of applications; it can be used directly in hydrogen-powered heavy trucks, contributing to the development of zero-carbon hydrogen transportation networks in the region. The project not only revitalizes industrial by-product resources but also reduces carbon emissions, achieving a win-win situation in terms of economic and ecological benefits. It effectively promotes the green and low-carbon transformation of the traditional coal and coking industry, injecting strong new momentum into the optimization of the local energy structure and its high-quality development.
