Which sea friend can tell me the standard procedure for preparing NaOH solution? I work at a waste-to-energy plant, and I need to prepare solutions with a concentration of 45% on a regular basis. Is there a standard procedure for doing this? What needs to be paid attention to? Are there any books? Or standards? Thank you!
The preparation of the alkaline solution does not seem to involve a significant heat generation, so a cooler is likely not necessary. All that’s left is to add the caustic solution in this way – determining how much water to add, how to achieve uniform concentration through circulation, and also identifying sampling points for analysis. Theoretical calculations are necessary. There is also the issue of the quality requirements for alkali solutions. ——We have learned a lesson from this: using alkaline solutions for neutralization can result in abnormally high COD levels. It’s definitely not acceptable to use alkaline solutions of poor quality.

I am also very interested in the standards and procedures for preparing alkaline solutions. I was involved in an overseas project that required the alkali tank in the alkaline addition system to be initially filled with 80% of an alkali solution of a certain concentration. At first, I thought it would be sufficient to send the powder to the construction site for mixing and filling, but after further discussion, it was determined that this approach carried high risks. In terms of safety, the preparation conditions, concentrations, or quality control are unknown; in short, overall it is considered that the conditions for producing alkali solutions on-site are not available. As a result, expensive alkali solutions had to be purchased and then shipped out with considerable effort. On the other hand, we still don’t have a thorough understanding of the above issues; I hope to find answers in your post.
