When should a static mixer be used for gases and gas mixtures?

As the title suggests, for example in a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen, is it necessary to install a static mixer in the pipeline? When is it necessary? What type of static mixer should be used?

You must be asking whether mixing is necessary. If two gases are to come into contact and react, a mixer is needed to improve the efficiency of the reaction (or barriers can be installed to increase the chances of collision). As for what kind of mixer to use, one that can create the greatest level of turbulence is appropriate. If there’s no reaction intended, then what’s the point of using a mixer??
No reaction, just mixing; it seems there’s no need?
If it’s just a simple mixing process, there’s no need for an additional mixer… unless you’re aiming to induce a reaction (including combustion) in order to improve reaction efficiency (or the stability of combustion). That’s based on my past experience. As for mixing, it is done to increase randomness due to factors such as reactions; there are various methods available, such as using baffles, collisions, static mixers, and so on… these are all options for reference
