This is a UOP PDH unit; before it starts up for the first time, it needs to be dried with hot nitrogen first, followed by replacement with instrument air, after which people can enter to install the catalyst and other components. Then it is sealed again, purged with nitrogen, and dried once more. I just want to ask whether air can be used for drying it the first time It doesn’t seem like there’s anything bad about using air drying for the first time.
Considering the safety of hydrogen-recirculating centrifugal compressors, nitrogen is relatively safer

The first drying using a nitrogen medium was a hot-state test involving cyclic temperature rise for thermal nitrogen operation; the catalyst was installed only for local ventilation and replacement. The second nitrogen purging is to purge and dry the system with nitrogen before starting up the operation, in order to then proceed with feeding raw materials for production.
