The safety of hazardous chemicals cannot be ignored; **great emphasis must be placed on their safety. To help everyone develop a better awareness of chemical safety management and ensure the safe storage of such chemicals, WeiSiji has compiled information related to the management of hazardous chemical storage. I. Storage of hazardous chemicals 1. Segregated storage: refers to the storage of different items together in the same room or the same area. A storage method that keeps items at a certain distance apart from each other, with passages used to create space between items that are not prohibited from being stored together. 2. Separated storage: Refers to a storage method in which, within the same building or area, partitions or walls are used to separate such materials from incompatible substances (chemicals that are chemically reactive with each other or have different fire-extinguishing methods). 3. Separate storage: A storage method in which hazardous materials are stored in different buildings or in external areas far away from all buildings. 4. Open-air storage: Stored in the open air, without a dedicated warehouse. https://p1.itc.cn/images01/20200525/b4953f3362574b659229647ed755d5a1.png II. Basic requirements of the “General Rules for the Storage of Commonly Used Chemical Hazards” 1. The storage of chemical hazards must be carried out in compliance with **laws, regulations, and other relevant provisions. 2. Hazardous chemicals must be stored in specialized warehouses for hazardous chemicals approved by the public security authorities; the warehouses used by distributors for storing such chemicals, as well as the quantity stored, must also be approved by the public security authorities. 3. The open storage of hazardous chemicals shall meet the safety requirements for fire and explosion prevention. 4. Warehouses storing hazardous chemicals must be staffed with technicians possessing specialized knowledge. The warehouses and related areas should be under the supervision of designated personnel, who must be equipped with reliable personal protective equipment. 5. Hazardous chemicals stored shall be equipped with clear labels, and such labels shall comply with the provisions of GB190. When storing two or more different grades of hazardous materials in the same area, the hazard symbols corresponding to the highest grade of material shall be used. 6. Store hazardous materials in designated areas, categories, and warehouses based on their properties. All types of hazardous materials must not be stored together with prohibited substances. 7. Smoking and the use of open flames are strictly prohibited in buildings and areas where hazardous chemicals are stored. III. General Provisions for the Storage of Commonly Used Chemical Hazards – Storage Arrangements 1. The storage arrangement of chemical hazards depends on the classification and sub-category of the hazards, the type of container, the storage method, and fire safety requirements. 2. Hazardous materials that can explode or undergo chemical reactions when exposed to fire, moisture, or humidity, thereby producing toxic gases, must not be stored in the open air or in buildings that are damp or flooded. 3. Hazardous materials that can undergo chemical reactions in response to sunlight, leading to combustion, explosion, decomposition, combination, or the production of toxic gases, should be stored in buildings with a fire resistance rating of level 1, and their packaging must have light-blocking measures in place. 4. **These products must not be stored together with other types of items; they need to be stored separately in limited quantities. The warehouse should not be located in urban areas, and it must also maintain a certain safety distance from surrounding areas, traffic routes, and power transmission lines. http://p2.itc.cn/images01/20200525/69b5b97ac6da4d41ab0a09406fde0ff6.png IV. Inventory Management 1. Warehouses that store hazardous chemicals must have strict systems in place for managing incoming and outgoing shipments. 2. Personnel, motor vehicles, and work vehicles entering the hazardous chemicals storage area must take fire prevention measures. 3. Before hazardous chemicals are introduced into or taken out of storage, they must be inspected, accepted, and registered in accordance with the contract. The inspection includes checking the quantity of the goods, their packaging, and the hazard labels. 4. Items can be stored or dispatched only after verification; they must not be stored if their nature is not clear. 5. Materials that are incompatible with each other must not be transported in the same vehicle. 6. When loading, unloading, and transporting chemical hazards, relevant regulations must be followed to ensure gentle handling. Falling, hitting, striking, dragging, tilting, and rolling are strictly prohibited. 7. When handling items that are harmful to health or corrosive, operators should wear appropriate protective equipment depending on the level of danger. 8. When repairing, replacing, cleaning, or loading/unloading flammable and explosive materials, copper, alloy, or other tools that do not generate sparks should be used. V. Ventilation and temperature in storage areas 1. Buildings used for storing hazardous materials must be equipped with ventilation systems, and proper protective measures for these systems must be in place. 2. The exhaust systems in buildings used for storing hazardous materials should be equipped with grounding devices for guiding and removing static electricity. 3. Ventilation ducts should be made of non-combustible materials. 4. Ventilation ducts should not pass through firewalls or other fire separation elements; if it is necessary to do so, they must be separated using non-combustible materials. 5. The temperature of the heating medium in buildings used for storing hazardous materials should not be too high; steam heating and mechanical heating shall not be used. 6. Pipes and equipment must be made of non-combustible materials. Finally, Driver Wei reminded all warehouse managers that they must receive thorough training on the management of hazardous materials warehouses before taking up their duties; only those who pass such training are qualified to manage such warehouses. Additionally, emergency response drills for hazardous materials warehouses should be conducted from time to time to improve the professional competence of the managers. As long as the above points are followed, a hazardous materials warehouse will become a safe and reliable storage location for such materials.
