The hydrogen exhaust in the workshop is estimated to be 200 kg per day (for 4 production lines); it is likely that this gas will not be allowed to enter the boilers for combustion, and it certainly will not be allowed to be burned in flares. I’m asking the experts here: dumping such a large amount directly must be extremely dangerous, right? Is there any good way to handle this?
Eliminate the other components; discharging them directly into the atmosphere is actually safer. If backflow occurs in the fire or torch inside the boiler, it will cause problems!
The problem is the height limit in this park.
The exhaust components are mainly 65% hydrogen, 25% nitrogen, and 5% water vapor (by volume)
Refer to Section 5.5 of the \"Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises\" regarding pressure relief and flare systems; it is sufficient to have the height at least 3.5 meters above the building. Won’t this height fall within the height restrictions?
Membrane separation can be used to recover high-concentration hydrogen; the exhaust gas, which consists mainly of nitrogen, is sent to the flare, thereby recovering hydrogen while also increasing the nitrogen concentration in the gas sent to the flare.
If the plant is equipped with facilities such as waste gas or waste liquid incinerators, or similar thermal oxidation furnaces, it is recommended to feed this secondary hydrogen off-gas into them for simultaneous treatment (the burners, etc., will need to be modified). If no such incineration facilities are available, it is still better to consider safe disposal.
