Is a valve needed before steam enters the dividing cylinder?

Does it have to be hydrophobic? If the pipeline is short, can the condensate be allowed to flow into the steam separator and be drained through it?
A steam distribution cylinder is installed before the unit enters; this cylinder is equipped with shut-off valves at both the front and back, a bypass valve, and a bottom drain valve.
A cut-off valve and bypass valve for the feed cylinder, as well as a bottom drain valve, should be installed.
